Co-organised by Addis Ababa University (AAU) and Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), the ‘East-African Athletics & Social Sciences’ international conference held in Addis Ababa from 29 June to 01 July gathered 45 scholars and post-graduate students from Ethiopia, Kenya, USA, UK, France and Germany and was attended by more than 300 persons, with a Ethiopian and international media coverage. The high quality of the original researched-based communications provided an accurate description of the Athletics phenomenon in East-Africa, with valuable contributions on topics connecting athletics with gender, psychology, socialization, disability, economics, doping and history, among others. The best contributions will soon be published in a collective book, after being reviewed by the scientific committee.
This event also strengthened the academic community of scholars from social sciences and sport sciences and opened new opportunities of academic cooperation between Kenyan, Ethiopian and international researchers.
